Shooting Stars great Joseph Ladipo (Jossy Lad) dies

                                      

The former Super Falcons coach died after a long battle to save his life on Thursday at his residence in Ibadan

After a fierce battle to save the life of the former coach of the Super Falcons by friends and well-wishers, Joseph Ladipo popularly known as Jossy Lad gave up the ghost at exactly 10:15am on Thursday at his residence located at Kuola area of Apata, Ibadan.

He was aged 72 and was survived by four children and nine grand children.

He was moved back home on Friday May 3 from the Southwest Ward 3 of University College Hospital (UCH) where he was twice admitted on heart related ailments.

His visibly worried first son Wale Ladipo said the health of his dad that was earlier certified as improved before he was discharged by the Chief Medical Director of UCH, Prof Temitope Alonge suffered set back which made the family to resolve on taking him abroad for further and better treatment but was faced with cash constraints.

His body as at the time of filing the report has left his home from mortuary in an ambulance provided by the Southwest zone one of National Sports Commission while family who are still grieving are yet to come out with burial plan. 

Reacting to the death, his close associate Alhaji Banji Akintayo, chairman Ibadan Football Association (IFA), who also witnessed his last moment said “he lived a fulfilled life, as a footballer, a coach and an administrator. He distinguished himself at his chosen career and left promising children behind so we cannot but thank the Lord for him.”

Also his former teammate Niyi Akande said “I have lost a great teammate, colleague and good friend, I feel so sad and short of words.”  

Chairman 3SC Toyin Akintunde who was in Abuja for a meeting of NPFL Club managers with the League Management Committee said via telephone that Jossy Lad's death was shocking. “There's virtually nothing we can do when God says the time has come, we tried our best but our dad has gone to rest with the Lord. May God give his family strength to bear the irreparable loss.”

Joseph Ladipo was the former chairman of the board of Shooting Stars Sports Club in the last dispensation.
