Oscar Pitorious’ uncle has defended the family for owning several firearms as he claims they are for hunting and sport.

Arnold Pistorius,  uncle of the murder accused paralympian said in a statement, which was issued by Vuma Reputation Management, that “”The Pistorius family owns weapons purely for sport and hunting purposes.”

The statement was in response to comments from Pistorious’ father Henke in the The Telegraph and The Daily Mirror, that the family used arms to protect themselves because the ruling ANC did not provide enough protection for the blacks.

However, Arnold said in a statement that these statements did not represent the views of the family.
“Oscar Pistorius’s family is deeply concerned about the comments made by Oscar’s father, Henke Pistorius, to UK newspaper the Telegraph…,” he said in the statement.

“Oscar and the rest of the Pistorius family distances itself from the comments. Henke’s interview with the newspaper was unapproved by our media liaison team.”

Pistorius faces a murder charge after shooting dead his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on St Valentine’s Day.
