Nigeria looks to clinch the top spot in Group F
World Cup qualifiers when it faces Namibia on Wednesday.
The top team in each group moves on to the third
round where it takes on another group winner for a chance to clinch a berth in
Brazil next summer. Nigeria currently leads the group with eight points in four
games. With a victory, Nigeria would gain 11 points and open up an
insurmountable lead over the other three teams in the group. Malawi could still
pick up 12 points, but a loss would eliminate them from contention. Namibia
would only be able to gain a maximum of seven points if it lost on Wednesday;
Kenya is already eliminated.
After winning the Africa Cup of Nations a few months
ago, the Nigerians were hailed as the uncontested favorites in this group. The
team defeated Namibia in its opening match but drew 1-1 with Malawi in the
second game. After a 1-1 draw against Kenya, Nigeria seized control with a 1-0
win over Kenya.
Namibia lost its opener against Nigeria but managed
a 1-0 victory over Kenya in the second match. A 1-0 loss against Malawi slowed
the team's momentum. In its most recent match, the Namibian squad drew 0-0 against
Malawi.
Nigeria has scored four goals in four games while Namibia has only scored
once.Defensively Nigeria has conceded twice while Namibia has allowed two
goals.
My Prediction: Nigeria has looked superior
throughout the campaign and will win 2-0
Start Time; 8pm Nigerian time
