Civil Defence Corps Man Dies On Top Of Girl Friend

Officials of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps, Calabar, over the weekend monted a manhunt for a lady who allegedly had marathon sex with their colleague, Ofem Eta, during which he died.

A source at 2, Orok Ita Street, Big Qua, where Ofem lived told P.M.NEWS that the man came back from duty on Friday evening and without eating any food went into marathon sex with the girl and passed away during the act.

“He came back from work and told me he was hungry and I prepared food for him but when I got there, his door was shut and when I knocked he told me to take the food back and bring it later. When I took the food to him later, his door was open and when I knocked he did not answer. When I went in I saw him lying naked on his bed,” the source said.

Ofem who hails from Mkapani in Yakkur Local Government Area is alleged to be fond of having sex with girls in most cases on empty stomach.

A neighbour who did not want his name in print said the girl was among the several girls that visit Ofem.

“When she came she greeted us but we did not take particular interest in her and when she came out of his room we did not say anything to her because we did not suspect anything unusual until his town girl brought him food,” the neighbor said.

He said the girl took away Ofem’s phone probably to avoid any trace because she and the deceased night have had some communication before the visit.
“People from his office came here and disturbed the whole street but they could not arrest anybody because the girl went away with his phone,” the neighbour said.

When P.M.NEWS visited the Corps’ office, the Public Relations Officer, Mrs Nkoyo Bassey said: “The man was enjoying himself so that is strictly his personal responsibility and not the Corps’. Have a good day”.

A source at the Operation’s unit of the Corps where Ofem worked before his death said there are efforts to track down the lady “but for now we have not arrested anybody”.

There's an Aluu4 movie in the making and it's being produced by Simony Productions, the Idumota marketers that brought you Blackberry Babes according to unconfirmed sources.

The question now is that do the Idumota Marketers only care about making money not necessarily as a tribute to the memory of the young men who lost their lives on October 5th and in about 50 days a movie has already been shot about the sad incident.

Its not sure if the production team contacted the family members of the murdered boys, or even got information from the police to get an insight on what really happened.

Chinedu Onyeuku, Former Nigerian National Basketball Player Shot Dead While Robbing A Home In Texas
A former Nigerian national basketball player was shot dead in a botched burglary in Texas before Thanksgiving, it has been revealed.

Chinedu Onyeuku, 29, was trying to break into a home in Plano on November 21 and was shot and killed by the homeowner, police say.

Onyeuku had played for the Nigerian team that qualified for this summer’s Olympic Games in London.

Burglary attempt: Police say Chinedu Onyeuku, 29, was trying to break into a home in Plano on November 21 and was shot and killed by the homeowner.

Basketball: Illinois State’s Nedu Onyeuku (pictured in Nov. 14, 2004 at a game against Penn State) had a short semi-pro career in the American Basketball Association after college
According to the Dallas News, Onyeuku and another person allegedly tried to break into a residence on Rio Grande Street in Plano, Texas the night of November 21.

The homeowner told Plano police that he saw ‘multiple people’ approaching the house. The two apparently entered the residence by breaking a glass patio door.

The homeowner shot Onyeuku, killing him instantly. His accomplice ran away without injury. Police are still trying to track the second burglar.

Nigeria: Chinedu Onyeuku joined the Nigerian basketball team, D¿Tigers, in 2009. His last appearance with the team was in December 2011

No one inside the home was injured in the burglary.

Upon their arrival, EMT workers pronounced him dead at the scene.

It is unclear why Onyeuku and his companion were trying to burglarize the residence.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation posted a statement saying that the 29-year-old athlete played basketball for the team that qualified for the London 2012 Olympics.

However, Onyeuku was not on the Olympic roster and did not actually compete.
The statement reads: ‘[His] passion for playing with D’Tigers was deep-seated and he will be greatly missed. The federation joins his family and team mates to mourn a departed son, father, husband and great patriot.’

According to online sports records, Onyeuku was born in the Nigerian capital of Lagos in 1983.
He moved to the United States at age six.

He played college basketball at Illinois State University and then went semi-pro for awhile, playing for the Arlington Bulldogs, in the American Basketball Association.

In 2009, he was invited to play for the D’Tigers, a national squad in Nigeria.

It also said that Onyeuku lived in Omaha, Nebraska.

$5,000 Disappears From Christ Embassy's Vault

Ugly rumours emanating from the Believers Love World (BLW) popularly known as Christ Embassy headquarters, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos is more than shocking if it is anything to go by. Impeccable sources exclusively revealed to Enquirer Magazine that the church headquarters, which is the venue of their annual International Conference IPPC, is currently being shaken to its root due to the $5,000 US dollars that was cleverly stolen from the Central Finance Department on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

One of the staff members who pleaded anonymity said Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, his serving pastors and other key members are still shocked at the disappearance of the money which was supposed to be in the custody of the Finance Department.

“These people will never change ! they keep soiling our image, imagine now that we have international  delegates around is when such terrible thing is happening,” the angry church member lamented.
The source further revealed that the money was mysteriously transferred from the Finance Department without following due process or accounted for and accusing fingers have directed to some of the trusted hands of Pastor Chris as investigations have began.

“The rumour is that the atrocity must have been perpetuated by one of Pastor’s most trusted hands who’s a senior staff of the department and that is why members of the finance department are doing everything possible to keep it under check until the programme ends,” he added.

We also gathered that the Finance department is now being extra careful as this is not the first case of alleged theft since the programme started. We promise to keep you posted on this as efforts to get an official reaction on the story proved abortive as at press time.

Hmmmm!!! theft in church??

Wife Stabs Husband to Death

IT was a sad story of love gone sour. Indeed it came as  a big shock to residents of No. 8 Eze Street, off Okposi Street, Nkaliki, Abakaliki when they woke up to discover that their neighbour, Mr. Yaune Okorji, an Assistant Immigration Officer  attached to Ebonyi State headquarters of the command, had lost his life because of a marital squabble which had lasted for quite some time.

Vanguard Metro, VM, gathered that the deceased and his embittered wife, Mrs. Judith Okorji have been having serious marital crisis, leading to accusation and counter-accusation over issues bordering on infidelity and that several attempts made by senior immigration officers to reconcile them yielded little or no success.

The quarrel reached a tragic climax on the fateful day  when the deceased accused his wife of sleeping with another man in a hotel. According to sources, the immigration officer who hailed from Ahoada in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, the same community with his wife, was stabbed to death around 1:00am after a fight with Judith got out of hand.

An eye witness who did not want her name mentioned stated that when Mr. Okorji returned late to the house on the fateful day, his wife who was already angry because of the husband’s excessive consumption of alcohol started interrogating him, thereby leading to a quarrel.

She said: “It was then that the wife out of annoyance grabbed a knife very close to her and stabbed him on the upper part of his left hand and it pierced through his chest and the man fell down, with blood gushing out from the stab wound. Neighbours who were attracted to the scene by shouts for help, grabbed him and put him on a motorcycle and rushed him to the Federal Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital”.

An unconfirmed source told VM that some angry relatives of Mr. Okorji had responded  to the incident by burning down the residences of the suspect’s (Mrs. Okorji) relatives in River State. Consequently, serious tension is said to be  building up in the hometown of the couple.

Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy  Superintendent of Police, DSP Sylvester Igbo, told newsmen that Mrs. Judith Okorji, the  24-year-old accused, had been arrested by the command for allegedly stabbing her husband to death after a quarrel bordering on infidelity.

The incident, since it occurred last Sunday, have generated lots of insinuations as bewildered neighbours in the area were seen discussing the matter in small groups.

Igbo said: “When the matter was reported, the police went to the scene and she was arrested. In the course of the investigation, she made confessional statement to the police. The Police discovered that she used the dagger belonging to the husband to stab him when they were quarreling.
It was alleged that the woman was accused of infidelity by the husband. The deceased was a staff of Immigration here in the state from Ahoda East in River State. They were living as husband and wife before the incident”.

According to him, investigation so far conducted by the police on the matter indicated that the accused, a nursing mother, who already had three children for the man, might have been provoked to carry out the act after the husband accused her of infidelity.
The Police spokesman revealed that the accused, who is a law student of the Nigeria Open University, had admitted to committing the crime but blamed it on the devil.

VM gathered that Judith who was in police custody, was later charged to court and remanded in prison custody for further investigation as the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA, for autopsy.
Also, the children of the deceased are said to be in custody of one Mrs. Eddy, a friend to the accused, for their up keep following the unfortunate episode.

Culled from Vanguard.

Household quarrels can lead to one loss of live, this is so terrible. Why take another life?People don't see value in life,so sad.

12 feared dead in Bayelsa chieftaincy tussle

The Agbere community, Sagbama Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, was in disarray on Tuesday after youths went on the rampage, burning houses and destroying property in the area over a chieftaincy dispute.

Our correspondent gathered that many youths were killed in the incident as security operatives battled to restore order in the local government area Governor Seriake ****son.

While some persons claimed that 12 youths died in the incident, the police said they had yet to ascertain the actual number of casualties.

The aggrieved youths were said to have attacked a police post in the community and injured police officers on duty.

While some sources said a policeman was killed in the melee, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Fidelis Odunna, denied the claims but said some officers were injured in the attack.

“The aggrieved youths attacked us but our men were able to repel the attack. But in the process, some of our men were injured. No police officer was killed,” he said.

It was learnt that the government had ordered security formations in the state, including the state police outfit codenamed Operation Doo-Akpo, to restore the peace in the community.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Kingsley Omire, was said to have led a special police team to the community.

Our correspondent learnt that the angry youths stormed the palace of the king and set it ablaze.
The king was said to have escaped death by the whiskers.

It was gathered that trouble started following a report of a commission set up by the local government to determine the emergence of a paramount ruler in the community.

The report, according to sources, recommended that the acting paramount ruler should be made a permanent ruler.

The recommendation was said to have provoked crisis between youths supporting the report and those against it.

It was learnt that mutual suspicion had existed in the community since the former Governor of the state, Mr. Timiprey Sylva, sacked the erstwhile traditional ruler in the community, Chief Aziza Ekade, for alleged violation of existing chieftaincy laws.

Chief Victor Alali was said to have been acting as the traditional ruler in the community since the deposition of Ekade.

****son, who frowned on the development, said security operatives had restored order in the area.
“We have since taken steps to bring the situation under control. Security operatives have responded swiftly and peace has been restored in the community,” he said.

****son, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, condemned the action of the youths and asked them to embrace dialogue in resolving their matters.

Nigerian Prison Service gets new name

The Nigerian Prison Service got a new name yesterday. It is now “The Nigerian Prisons and Correctional Service.”

This followed the third reading and passage of “A Bill for an Act to repeal the Prisons Act Cap. P29 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and enact the Nigerian Prisons and Correctional Service, to make comprehensive provisions for the administration of Prisons in Nigeria and for related purposes” by the Senate.

According to the Bill, the name change is “to underscore the humane aspect of the reform focus of prisons administrations and to conform to provisions in the international instrument.”

The lawmakers undertook a clause-by-clause consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Interior after a motion moved by its Chairman, Abubakar Bagudu.
The Senate also approved a recommendation that deleted the words ‘hard labour’ and replaced it with ‘prison labour’.

The Senators noted that “hard labour” is an inheritance from colonial era and should be deleted and replaced with “prisons labour.”

The Bill also empowered the State Comptroller of Prisons to reject additional prisoners where the prison in question is already filled to capacity.
Section 6 (4, 5,6) states: “In the event that the prison has exceeded its maximum capacity, the State Comptroller shall notify the Chief Judge of the State or the State Criminal Justice Committee.

Upon receipt of the notification the Chief Judge or the State Criminal Justice Committee shall within a period not exceeding one month take necessary steps to rectify the overcrowding.

Without prejudice to subSection 4, the State Comptroller of Prisons in consultation with the Prison Superintendent shall have the power to reject more intake of prisoners where it is apparent that the prison in question is filled to capacity.”
Senate President David Mark hoped the Bill would bring the required changes to the prison system in the country.

He urged prison officials to ensure that prisoners do not become “more hardened” after serving their sentences but become better citizens.

Hmmmm,sounds cool.

Viewers stunned As Two Fox News Anchors Resign Live On Air

Two news anchors at a Fox affiliate station in Bangor, Maine have sensationally quit live on-air, citing a longstanding battle with senior management over journalistic practices.

Co-anchors Cindy Michaels, 46, and Tony Consiglio, 28, shocked both staff and viewers by announcing their resignations at the end of Tuesday’s 6 p.m. broadcast.

Michaels, who was also the station’s news director, said she had grown frustrated with senior management's influence and desire for 'somewhat unbalanced news,' particularly in relation to politics.

There was a constant disrespecting and belittling of staff and we both felt there was a lack of knowledge from ownership and upper management in running a newsroom to the extent that I was not allowed to structure and direct them professionally,’ Michaels told BangorDailyNews.com.

Michaels, who joined the station in 2006, said a balanced journalistic approach was often frowned upon, although she wasn't specific about what political leaning senior management had expected the reporters to adopt.

‘I couldn’t do everything I wanted to as a news director. There was a regular undoing of decisions,’ she said.

Both Michaels and Consiglio said the idea to resign was something they had talked about for some time and so felt was right to make as a joint decision.

‘I just wanted to know that I was doing the best job I could and was being honest and ethical as a journalist, and I thought there were times when I wasn’t able to do that,’ said Consiglio, who joined the station in 2006 as a sports reporter before becoming a news anchor the next year.

Neither presenter told anyone of their decision prior to Tuesday’s broadcast for fear they wouldn’t be given the opportunity to say goodbye to viewers.

3 crushed as container falls on car in Lagos

No fewer than three persons were crushed to death yesterday when a 40-feet containerized vehicle fell on a Mazda Car on the Badagry-Seme Expressway.

The accident which occurred at about 1.15p.m, was attributed to the bad road which has been a nightmare to commuters and other users of the road.

The containerized vehicle with registration number XT 339 AKD was said to be conveying some goods when it lost control and fell on the car, with four occupants. Three of the passengers died instantly, while the driver was in a critical condition.

The accident caused a heavy traffic while passers-by went on an immediate rescue mission of the trapped persons, before officials of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authourity, LASTMA, came to the scene of the accident.

Three of the occupants pulled out from the crushed car had already died. Sources learnt that the driver of the truck fled immediately the accident occurred.

Eye witnesses told newsmen that the bad portion of the road has been left because of the on going reconstruction and that the danger has been there all along.

“For the fact that the road is no longer manageable, road users often drive against traffic to avoid container carrying trucks; now it has claimed lives,” exclaimed a regular road user.

The accident attracted a lot of condemnations of the government towards its people, with an eye-witness saying; “This is an indication that we are all driving on a time bomb. It could be I or you tomorrow”

As at the time LASTMA officials arrived the scene of the accident with a towing van in order to lift the container off the compressed car, a large number good spirited Nigerians, who swung into action almost immediately the accident occurred, had already evacuated the passengers on board the car with registration number UK 641 KJA.Image below:

The mother of the dead girls, identified as Mrs Coker, a widow, who was brought out of the debris alive was, however, in coma yesterday. Affected were flats 2, 4 and 6 of the six flat low-cost houses built over 30 years ago.

The building, Block M20, according to eye witnesses started showing cracks and sinking over a year ago. The tragic incident as gathered, occurred at about midnight causing a deafening sound.

Vanguard gathered that while occupants in flats 2 and 4 managed to escape, those in flat 6 – Mrs Coker and her two children: Toyin, a graduate of the University of Lagos and her younger sister, Bukola, did not.

It was learnt that occupants of the collapsed building apparently ignored the warning signs of imminent danger which was evident since the past year. Tenants in flats two and six reportedly moved out some months ago, only for owner of flat two to lease the flat out to new occupants.

After the incident, youths in the area reportedly began a rescue mission. The body of Mrs Coker in her unconscious state was said to be the first to be brought out from the debris at about 3am and was immediately rushed to the estate health centre. Bukola’s body, in her night gown was reportedly brought out at about 5am, while that of Toyin was brought out an hour later, stone dead. When Vanguard arrived the scene at about 8am, officials of NEMA and neighbourhood watch were sighted. Fire fighting vehicles arrived later.

I escaped death by whiskers – occupant
One of the survivors and occupant of flat 2, Amodu Iyetayo Omoniyi, told Vanguard: “I moved into the flat on September 2, 2012, though I occupy one of the rooms. It was after I moved in that I discovered that the building had been marked for demolition. Two of the occupants called me to ask why I decided to pack into a building that had cracks and when I called the caretaker, he refused to refund my money and assured me nothing would happen.

“Last night, (Tuesday), when I came back from church, a spirit said I should touch the wall and immediately I did, part of the wall just fell to the extent that I could see outside from there. I became afraid. As if that was not enough, other parts started falling in bits. I called one of our flat-mates to inform him and we decided to call the agent.

“I went to bed hoping to wake up today to attend an interview. But about 11pm, I woke up and went out, where I discovered that the third occupant of the flat could not even open his door. At that point, I heard a voice which said the building was going to collapse. Immediately I told my flat mates that we should leave the house. I went upstairs to tell the occupants (Mrs Coker and her daughters ) that there were signs of imminent collapse. But she said ‘okay, are you the people downstairs? Thank you.’

“I then went to my room collected my certificate and the cloth I was to put on today for the interview. At that time, the caretaker came in. When he saw the cracks, he decided to take us to a flat to pass the night. Immediately I stepped outside, I heard a deafening sound and our part of the building collapsed. I just thank God that I heeded the voice of reasoning.”

I never knew the collapse will be so soon – Caretaker
The caretaker who simply gave his name as Ali, claimed he never knew the building would collapse this soon, when asked why he collected money from the new occupants in flat two. Vanguard gathered that following the cracks on the wall, the occupants had written several letters to the concerned quarters, only to be told that something would be done.

Mrs. Coker, a retired staff of Shell Oil Company, was one of the agitators for the reconstruction of the block. She was said to have refused to move to her other flats in the estate, until government came to effect repairs on the cracked building.

A community leader, Prince Prince Dimeji Gbadamosi, who expressed disdain over the incident blamed the government for the disaster.

He said: “This is a building that was constructed by government agent, Lagos State Property Development Corporation, LSDPC. You can imagine that the gauge of the iron is 16 m and 1 inch for a decking of two storey building . The builders, engineers and material testers must all be arrested and brought to book for causing the death of these two promising ladies.”

LG not aware of building state – Council boss
Chairman of the Ejigbo Local development Council, Kehinde Bamgbetan, who visited the scene to have a first hand assessment of the damage, said his office was never aware of the state of the building until the tragic incident.

He stated that the government and Lagos State Physical Planning and Urban Development would be inspecting other buildings in the estate that have similar problems and mark them for demolition, adding: “But I can not just take decision now on what to do with those affected because there has to be a meeting between the occupants and government. This building is supposed to be insured. If it is, then we will know the next step to take and if it is not, then we will ask Lagos Building and Investment Corporation, LBIC, what can be done.”

Six other blocks marked for demolition
As at 10am, block numbers M16,12, 23, 24, 15 and 11 were marked for demolition with the occupants given 24-hour notice to vacate the buildings. It was gathered that block M11 was only re-built last year. The 24-hour notice did not go down well with the affected occupants as they urged government to provide them with alternative shelter before they would move out.
One of them who simply gave his name as Funso said, “why would they just come now and ask us to leave in 24 hours. Where do they expect us to go. Why is government fond of this fire brigade attitude? Where were the government officials when letters were sent to them by occupants of the affected building? All we are asking for is to be given time to pack move out, after-all everyone knows how difficult it is to get accommodation in Lagos.”

Building distressed for over a year – Neighbour
A man who lives in the neighbourhood, Mr. Opeyemi Fagun, told Vanguard that they had noticed that the building was sinking gradually for about a year. He said the occupants had been warned to evacuate the building over a year ago when the walls started cracking, adding: “The building was already sinking, shaking with cracked walls and they had been warned to pack out. When we heard a huge bang and a cloud of dust, we ran out and heard screaming from inside the rubbles; so, we went to dig the people out with our bare hands. But our efforts were futile as the girls were already dead.”
Another neighbour, Kidochi Okonye, said that when they came out at about 12. 30 a.m. and saw what happened, they called the National Emergency Management Agency, the fire service and the Red Cross, but none of them came. He said that Red Cross officials eventually came by 6 a.m. when the dead sisters had been pulled out and they carried the corpses away.

One of the occupants of the first floor of the collapsed building, who refused to disclose her name, said that they came in by 9 p.m. on Tuesday and saw that their decking had cracked badly. “My brother went upstairs to warn the Cokers but they did not take heed to the warning and we decided not to sleep in that building. We were seated outside when we heard a bang and started screaming for help. It was so fast that I can’t describe it; I wish I could have helped them, but I just could not.”

Occupants ignored government’s safety warnings— LASEMA

Mr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said that occupants of a two-storey building had ignored government‘s safety warnings. Oke-Osanyintolu who said the state government had conducted series of structural tests on the building explained that occupants had been repeatedly informed of its distressed state and the dangers in their continued habitation of the building.

He said: “This is the kind of disasters we have always tried to avoid, but unfortunately, some residents are not just co-operating with the state government at the expense of their safety. The results of the series of structural tests we conducted on the collapsed building showed that the structure was weak and not fit for habitation.

We had repeatedly warned the occupants of the dangers and asked them to leave but unfortunately, they ignored these warnings. This disaster is preventable. It would not have happened this way if the occupants had complied.”
1 trapped in another collapsed building

Meanwhile, one person, a worker was trapped in another collapsed building, yesterday, at Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, also in Lagos. The building situated at 174 Corporation Drive, gave way in the afternoon and the worker was said to have been trapped when a part of the building gave way.

LASEMA boss, Dr. Femi Osanyintolu, also confirmed the development and said his team moved to the scene after a distress call by neighbours.

There was, however, a conflicting account about the condition of Mrs Coker, yesterday. While eye witnesses said the women gave up the ghost around 2pm. Dr. Osanyintolu said she was still under treatment “and the doctors have not officially informed me of her death.”
